Although our three military services work together the salutes that they adopt are not the same. Take a look at our salute facts below to learn the difference between the various salutes the Army, RAF and Navy give.

The Army: The Salute

The Army and RAF both give the tradtional salute, with their hand almost touching the temple, and the palm facing outwards.

The RAF: The Salute

The Army and RAF both give the tradtional salute, with their hand almost touching the temple, and the palm facing outwards.

The Navy: The Salute

The Navy salute is different as the hand is tilted downwards hiding the palm. This is because the Navy wear white gloves that can get dirty through service. It is considered disrespectful to show a dirty palm to a superior — and so the modern Navy salute was born.
